GC Games 2020 Branding
GC Games 2020 was initiated for Young Professionals Network between departments to exercise their creativity to solve problems in a competitive environment. I was given an opportunity to build their branding.
Jessie is an unbelievable talented graphic designer. She loves what she does and is exceptional at communicating her ideas while embracing the clients’ needs. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Jessie at the Public Service Commission for just under a year now and I can say that she’s definitely great at what she does. I often go to Jessie when I need visuals/artworks for some of my files and she never disappoints. Any employer would be lucky to have a talented graphic designer such as Jessie join their team.

I started sketching to see how it could fit in English and French. Then I wrote down the emotions I want to visualize in the branding. I wanted to have two different font the word ‘Government’ to be polite and calm; contrasting to ‘Games’ to be bold and exciting. After I decided on the font choice, I wrote down possible colours to portray both feelings. I decided red would be the best colour for this project.
The event was held by young professional networks from four departments. Each department had their own representations. They were Public Service Commission (raccoons), Fisheries and Oceans (narwhals), Agriculture and Agri-Food (cows), and Border Services (dogs).
I made sure all the visual deliverable, such as name tags, presentations, and certificates, aligned with the identity. Bold-overlapping patterns illustrate competition and collaboration.
A logo represents a corporate look of government with a sans serif typeface and black‑and-white, and excitement of the game with a display typeface and red. In addition to a prominent colour in the identity, red also represents Canada and to show competitive environment.
